SERVICES

Professional and conveniently located

About us

Advance Endoscopy & Specialist Centre concentrates on clinic-based out-patient investigation and treatment of colon, rectal, and upper GI ailments using the latest equipment and techniques.

Referral only

As a specialized clinic, we are not able to accept requests for appointments directly from patients. Your primary care physician or family doctor must fax a referral to us. Once we have received it, we will contact you directly to book the appointment.

Colonoscopy

Colon cancer is one of the most preventable forms of cancer through routine screening for polyps in the colon. Since all colon cancers come from polyps, we aim to find polyps early through the colonoscope and remove them before they turn into cancer. A polyp looks like a wart or cherry.

Gastroscopy

Gastroscopy (EGD) is a routine test in which a doctor examines the upper part of your gastrointestinal tract (gut). The upper gut consists of the oesophagus, stomach and duodenum. The doctor uses an endoscope for this procedure, sometimes called an endoscopy. We will advise that you take this test if you have symptoms such as recurring indigestion or heartburn, pains in the upper abdomen, repeated vomiting, difficulty swallowing, or other symptoms.

Remove hemorrhoids

In this procedure, we place a latex band around the neck of a hemorrhoid or pile. It falls off with the band in 7-10 days. It is a painless procedure that does not require a general anesthetic or hospitalization.

Minor surgical procedures

We perform anorectal procedures (anal tags etc.), hemorrhoidal banding, removal of skin tags, moles and small lipoma, removal of cysts, etc.

Bowmanville Center for Sleep Disorders

We have three Durham Region locations to serve you. In Bowmanville, we are on the second floor of the south wing.

History

We have operated for over 25 years. We diagnose sleep disorders, such as Obstructive Sleep Apnea, insomnia, nighttime-related disorders, and periodic limb movements, in addition to performing sleep studies on children aged four years and up.

Professional staff

Our staff are highly trained professionals who bring many years of experience in the sleep field. They are medical professionals and polysomnographic technologists committed to maintaining an ethical and moral standard and conducting themselves professionally.

Dr. Kenneth Buttoo is the Medical Director for all three clinics. He studied at Manchester University in England and the University of Toronto and is American Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Sleep Medicine. Dr. Buttoo has co-authored numerous articles, including the most recent ones: Narcolepsy and Mental Illness, Forensic and Legal Aspects of Sleep Medicine, Pharmacological Management of Insomnia, Zolpidem’s use for Insomnia and Melatonin and Human Cardiovascular Disease.

Children

The doctor will examine every child and review all relevant medical history before proceeding with a sleep study. We have a specially designed room for parents to help their children feel more comfortable during their studies.

Adults

A polysomnogram is a diagnostic test we perform to diagnose various sleep disorders. This test uncovers possible reasons for daytime fatigue and tiredness along with specific sleep issues, such as sleep apnea, periodic limb movements etc.

Upon arriving at the lab, you will fill in some paperwork. The technologist will explain every step. They will attach electrodes, respiratory belts and finger probes to record the brain’s electrical activity, eye movements, muscle activity, respiratory effort, airflow, heart rate and oxygen levels. We record your sleep on video for your safety and to collate with the collected data.

The technologist will wake you at six a.m. to remove the electrodes and respiratory belts for you to return home or go to work.

About

We are committed to providing the highest quality patient care for the whole family and offer a wide array of fashion eyewear.

Exams

Our doctors provide comprehensive eye exams using the latest technologies and techniques which may uncover potentially sight-threatening eye diseases. Some conditions are not painful, may go unnoticed, and progress slowly. Early detection is critical as these issues might be slowed or stopped from worsening.

Children

Children need special attention since 80% of early learning is visual. The Canadian Association of Optometrists (CAO) recommends a child’s first eye examination at six months and then annually starting at three years old. It’s never too late to get started.

Laser surgery consultations

Our doctors can determine whether or not you are a good candidate for the procedure and discuss the benefits and potential complications associated with laser vision correction.

Emergency

We accept patients for emergency eye care such as foreign body removal, eye injuries, pink eye, eye pain, sudden vision changes, flashes of light, or a sudden increase in “floaters” subject to the availability of a doctor or by appointment. For after-hours care, please visit your nearest walk-in clinic or hospital.

Other services

  • Visual Field and Ministry of Transportation testing
  • Diabetic Eye Care
  • OCT imaging

Coverage

Ask. We can probably help. Our services run the gamut from the time of your eye exam to your eyewear purchase, from infants to seniors. Your eye care and satisfaction are our top priorities!

About CMCC

CMCC is an evidence-based chiropractic education and research leader, collaborating with universities, hospitals and other chiropractic institutions worldwide.

Who we are

CMCC is an academic institution offering a second-entry undergraduate professional degree and postgraduate and continuing education programs.

Vision

We create leaders in spinal health.

Mission

We deliver world-class chiropractic education, research and patient care.

Evidence-based program

Our four-year Doctor of Chiropractic Program provides a curriculum aligned with CMCC’s model of care. Chiropractic is a primary contact health care profession, and chiropractors possess expert spinal and musculoskeletal health knowledge.

Students integrate and apply theoretical knowledge to clinical practice, patient care and management. They learn to critically examine emerging research and incorporate that knowledge to make clinical decisions relating to diagnosis and treatment. Equally important, students learn that patient preferences and expectations underpin the ways of balancing knowledge from research and clinical practice into an individualized approach to helping patients.

About us

LifeCare Centres provides exceptional, quality counselling and psychological services to individuals, couples, and families. Our purpose is to empower our clients to manage life with integrity, authenticity, and wholeness by providing them with life-applicable tools for growth, healing, and fulfillment.

Do you need help?

Are you struggling with stress, anxiety, anger or depression? Mental health problems can cover many disorders, but the common characteristic is that they affect your personality, thought processes, or social interactions. When your challenges interfere with your relationships, lifestyle or ability to enjoy life, it is time to seek help.

Individuals

One-on-one, face-to-face time is increasingly rare in our high-tech, busy, and fast-paced society; however, it is essential to our wellbeing and is highly effective for dealing with life stresses. We offer you a safe place to talk with a professional and caring person trained to help you work through any challenges you may face. We will find the right male or female psychotherapist specialized in counselling for your issues, offering many years of experience. Our caring psychotherapists are ready to provide counselling therapy to support you as you make a change for the better.

Couples

We facilitate communication and healing between couples facing any challenge. Some of the common causes of conflict and crisis in a relationship are:

  • Communications breakdowns
  • Affairs
  • Extended family challenges (boundaries with in-laws)
  • Change of life (having children, empty nest, retirement)
  • Inequality in household duties
  • Conflict management differences

Feel secure in the knowledge that, with your permission, our collaborative team approach can address any other life stressors that may be occurring or identified through counselling, such as addictions, trauma, and more. We can provide specialized care for these additional issues while providing relationship support.

Families

Families are all about relationships between family members, different groups within the family and the family as a whole.

We offer family counselling wherein we work with all family members to address any familial problems or tensions causing strife. In our view, each family member holds a piece of the puzzle, and it is essential to know what each piece looks like to facilitate change and healing. Our family therapists are committed to going with you on your family’s journey for as long as needed.

Commitment

When you are ready for change, when you are ready for healing, we are here to help. We offer a safe and confidential space for you to receive the help you need to transform your life.

About Midwifery

A midwife is a registered health care professional who provides primary care to low-risk persons throughout their pregnancy, labour and birth and provides care to both the pregnant individual and baby during the first six weeks following the birth.

Midwives work together in group practices. Pregnant individuals receive care from a small number of midwives. During regularly scheduled visits to the midwifery practice, midwives provide clinical examinations, counselling and education. Midwives will make a care management plan tailored to their individual needs through evidence-informed care. Your midwives arrange labs, ultrasounds, and prescriptions.

Continuity of care

Midwifery care is available throughout one’s pregnancy, labour, birth, and the first six weeks after birth. Midwives spend time developing relationships with clients and their families and are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Informed choice

Clients are active decision-makers in the care they receive; midwives give information to help them make informed decisions.

Choice of birthplace

Midwifery clients may choose to give birth at home or in hospital. Midwives maintain privileges at many Ontario hospitals and work collaboratively with other health care practitioners.

OHIP
